Gtechniq W4 Citrus Snow Foam — citrus pre-wash that clings, lifts grime & keeps coatings safe

Unlike traditional pre-wash snow foams that come loaded with caustic chemicals, Gtechniq W4 Citrus Foam is a pH neutral formula that removes hard to shift grime, without damaging sealants, coatings or waxes.

It combines an effective citrus degreaser with a strong foaming agent making it tough on road grime and bug spatter, but kind to waxes and coatings.

It can be used at a dilution of up to 10:1 through a foam lance. And also through a pump sprayer.

  • Removes road grime easily
  • Non-caustic formula
  • 100% biodegradable

How to use Gtechniq W4 Citrus Snow Foam:

  • We recommend to use in conjunction with a jet wash and snow foam lance
  • Decant one inch (2.5cm) of W4 into a foam lance and fill with warm water
  • Allow the foam to dwell on the surface for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly
  • Spray onto the surface of the vehicle from bottom to top
  • Gtechniq W4 Snow Foam can also be used with a pump sprayer at a dilution of 1:20

Do not allow the product to dry on the surface.

Gtechniq has become one of the most trusted names in automotive surface science, renowned for its cutting-edge ceramic technologies and lab-developed formulas that prioritise real-world performance. From paint protection to interior care, every product is engineered with precision, durability, and clarity in mind.

Please Note: in colder weather, Gtechniq W4 Snow Foam can congeal. When it is like this it is easily identifiable by its milky appearance and thicker gel-like consistency. Do not use when it is in this state as it can cause a blockage in your foam lance. Leave W4 inside and after a few hours at room temperature it will return back to normal.

Our Take

“How we use it as part of a safe, coating-friendly wash process.”

W4 Citrus Foam is one of those pre-washes we regularly reach for when we want strong cleaning performance without compromising existing protection. It’s pH neutral, which means we’re comfortable using it on waxed, sealed, or ceramic-coated cars without worrying about flattening hydrophobic performance.

The formulation combines a focused citrus degreaser with a high-foaming surfactant system, so we get good cling and proper dwell time when used through a quality foam lance. It does a solid job of softening traffic film, bug residue, and general road grime before we move into the contact wash stage — and that reduction in bonded dirt makes a noticeable difference to how safe the wash feels.

We tend to apply it through a proper lance such as the MTM PF22.3 or MJJC S3, let it dwell without drying, then rinse thoroughly before following up with a safe shampoo like Gtechniq GWash to complete the process.

For us, W4 hits a really useful middle ground — stronger than a purely cosmetic foam, but still safe enough for regular maintenance. If we’re washing a protected car and want to keep that gloss and beading intact, this is a very dependable choice.

Rated from the manufacturer's own Safety Data Sheet — real ingredient chemistry, not marketing claims.

Cleaning Power ★★★★★
Coating & Sealant Safety ★★★★★

A proper crowd-pleaser — that citrus scent alone has converted plenty of customers who couldn't care less about the ingredient list. The chemistry backs it up with a solid secondary alkane sulfonate base softened by a betaine amphoteric. Good on road grime and bug splatter. Worth noting: Gtechniq markets this as pH-neutral, but their own SDS does not disclose a pH value anywhere — we can't verify that claim from the primary document. The 5L halves your cost per wash.

Gtechniq W4 Citrus Snow Foam – Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? You’re in the right place! Whether you’re a first-time user or a seasoned pro, our Frequently Asked Questions section is designed to be your go-to resource for quick answers, troubleshooting tips, and clever tricks to unlock the full potential of the Gtechniq W4 Citrus Snow Foam.

Gtechniq W4 Citrus Snow Foam is a pH neutral pre-wash foam designed to safely remove road grime, bug splatter, and other stubborn dirt from your vehicle's paintwork. Unlike traditional caustic snow foams, W4 uses a citrus degreaser combined with a strong foaming agent to lift dirt effectively whilst being completely safe for existing waxes, sealants, and ceramic coatings. It's the ideal first step in your car washing routine to loosen dirt before your main wash.

The key features of Gtechniq W4 include its pH neutral formula that won't damage protective coatings, effective citrus degreasing action for tough grime removal, and 100% biodegradable composition. It can be diluted up to 10:1 through a foam lance or 1:20 through a pump sprayer, making it versatile and economical. The formula clings well to vertical surfaces, allowing proper dwell time for maximum cleaning effectiveness.

W4 Citrus Snow Foam is compatible with all paint types, waxes, sealants, and ceramic coatings due to its pH neutral formulation. It works best with a dedicated snow foam lance but can also be used through pump sprayers. The main limitation is that you must not allow the product to dry on the surface, so avoid using it in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces.

For foam lance use, decant one inch (2.5cm) of W4 into your foam lance and fill with warm water. Spray from bottom to top, allow 5 minutes dwell time, then rinse thoroughly. For pump sprayer application, dilute 1:20 with water. Always work in shade and ensure the surface isn't hot. Follow up with a proper Two Bucket Wash method for complete cleaning. Never let the foam dry on the surface.

You should expect W4 to effectively loosen and lift road grime, traffic film, and bug splatter, making your subsequent wash much easier and safer for your paintwork. The citrus formula is particularly effective on greasy contamination. While it won't remove all dirt on its own, it significantly reduces the risk of scratching during your main wash by pre-cleaning the heaviest soiling. Results are immediate after the 5-minute dwell time.

The most common mistake is letting the foam dry on the surface, which can leave residue and reduce effectiveness. Always work in shade and rinse before the foam dries. Another error is using too strong a dilution - start with the recommended ratios and adjust if needed. Don't skip the dwell time as this is crucial for the citrus action to work.
