Supagard any good?

Post by Alfa Ian » Thu Sep 28, 2017 1:18 pm

Hi Guys,

I’ve ordered a new Lexus and went for the Supagard package, but reading some post it appears not rated much by you guys. But I note the posts are old 5 years+, has Supagard been improved as the product I went for has a 5 year guarantee and also includes the wheels and interior of the car. So I’m a little confused how their can offer 5 year guarantee if it wears off after 6 months.

Thank is advance.

Ian.

Never used it mate to be honest and dealers offer dozens of wonder products that last a lifetime.
Most of these maintained correctly are ok, i offer Autosmart silver seal and for the price, it does work well on all the cars i have applied to but i do maintain them.
I also offer ceramic coatings .
Collinite 476 topped up with 915 every few months will work well mate but there hundreds of different products and combinations to choose from.

Whilst I am waiting for the car, I read the leaflet Lexus gave me for the Supagard. Doesn’t really say much, but picked up to maintain it mentions to use wash & wax which I presume is their own combined car wash solution. So reading between the lines a regular coating of wax will maintain the protective sealant.

So thinking of going for the Chemical Guys Pete 53 wax to apply every month or two. Shampoo wise I’ve got some Meguires already, but thinking maybe going for the Chemical Guys Black light shampoo to keep it looking great between waxes.

That will work well, try after each wash P40 carnaubra detail spray that will add a bit more protection and add a bit of bling.

The thing to watch out for whenever a "coating" is applied to the paint, is the state of it, prior to the application. If it's scratched, swirled, contaminated, etc. then that will be sealed under the coating. No coating is 100% protective, it's just a sacrificial layer, on top of the paint.

Also application of a ceramic coating on a car with a lot of swirls will magnify them.
