How to Use Bilt Hamber Double Speed Wax
Bilt Hamber Double Speed Wax is a fast, high-gloss carnauba wax designed to be simple to apply and easy to buff off. The key to great durability and a crisp finish is proper wash prep, thin application, and controlled conditions (cool panels, out of direct sunlight).
1. Wash and dry the vehicle properly
Start with a thorough wash using a dedicated, salt-free automotive shampoo. Avoid “wash & wax” style products, as they can leave residues that reduce how well wax lays down and buffs off.
2. Prep the paintwork (especially if it’s rough or faded)
Double Speed Wax is a non-abrasive wax, so it won’t correct oxidation, swirls, or rough-feeling contamination on its own. If the paint feels gritty, looks dull, or hasn’t been decontaminated/polished in a long time, prep first so the wax can sit on a clean, smooth surface.
- If the paint feels rough, decontaminate using a clay bar and lubricant from Clay Bar & Lubes.
- If the finish is faded or needs correction, use an abrasive polish from Car Polish & Compounds before waxing.
Once the paint is properly prepared, regular applications of Double Speed Wax help maintain a glossy, protected finish without the frequent need for abrasive polishing.
3. Work on cool, shaded panels
Apply on cool paintwork, out of direct sunlight. This helps the wax flash evenly and makes buffing significantly easier. Work panel-by-panel for best control.
4. Prime the applicator and apply extremely thin
Lightly dampen the supplied sponge applicator and wring it out thoroughly so it’s only just moist. Apply the wax very sparingly using light, circular motions—thin layers cure better and wipe off cleaner.
Allow the film to haze/dull for around 5–10 minutes (time will vary with temperature and humidity).
5. Buff to a high shine
Buff off with the supplied microfibre cloth, using light pressure and turning frequently to a clean side as you work. If you want to add extra buffing cloths to your kit, you’ll find suitable options in Buffing Towels.
6. If you notice “blooming” or hazing after buffing
In some humid conditions you may see a slight bloom/haze appear after initial wipe-off. This is a known characteristic of the high-grade carnauba used in the wax film.
- Option A: allow the wax film to fully cure and the bloom will disappear naturally.
- Option B: lightly wipe/buff again using a slightly damp microfibre cloth to remove it immediately.
7. Cleaning and storage
- Both the applicator pad and microfibre cloth can be washed and reused.
- Do not use fabric conditioner, as it can reduce towel performance.
- Store the applicator pad away from direct sunlight to keep it in best condition for next time.
Tip: Keep maintenance easy with careful washing and drying between applications. Consistent, gentle care helps the wax last longer and keeps the gloss looking its best.
